BeInControl v1.0 for BeOS
BeInControl is an ir remote control program. I have made it so everyone
should be able to add support for their programs... Originally I wanted
to add some kind of ir control support to CL-Amp,
but when I had thought about it long enough I came up with this solution
instead! In this way I hope that the ir control issue should be solved
once and for all for BeOS in general! :-)
It needs an ir receiver and more specific this one: IRMAN.

Thanks Justin
Bukoski for sending me a receiver unit and for pushing me in
to the project! :-)
-
Currently it can only control CL-Amp, but
hopefully more programs will be added in the future... (ask authors of
other programs if they can make a BeInControl configuration file for their
program)
-
Be sure to have CL-Amp v3.6 or later!!
-
An IRMAN device is
needed!
-
PPC version
-
Not ready yet! Sorry...
Features
-
Automatically detects a connected IRMAN
device
-
Support for more programs can easily be added by creating new configuration
files (examine existing configuration files)
-
Can handle scripting when it communicates with other programs
-
Can save different settings so you can have different setups for different
needs or different remote controls and so on...
Some Help (CL-Amp is used as an example
in the text)
-
BeInControl shall automatically find your IRMAN,
if you have plugged it into any serial port!
-
The program have 2 modes... Normal mode and Teach
mode.
-
In Normal mode it will try to translate
every pressed key on the remote control to whatever function you have teach
it to do and the function buttons (to the right in the window) will also
cause things to happen. If you press the Play button, CL-Amp should begin
to Play and so on...
-
In Teach mode when you press a function
button you have a chance to tell BeInControl which key on the remote control
should be connected to that function... E.g. click on the Play button and
a window will pop up, telling you to press a key on the remote control.
When you pressed a key long enough the window will go away again and the
function
is teached! If you switch to normal mode (deselect Teach), pressing the
same key on the remote control should cause the desired function to occur!
-
The Auto Launch button can be used to tell BeInControl
that it should start CL-Amp if it's not already started. A good idea is
to select Auto Launch before you teach the Play button and then deselect
it again! The Auto Launch status will be remembered when something is teach
and it means that when you press the play key on the remote control CL-Amp
will be started and playing will begin!!
-
A function can be connected to several keys and a
key can be connected to several functions...
-
If you teach one control (or one control for a specific
task) it can be saved. I call it Settings and there is a section where
you can Save and Load, or clear everything with New.
-
The current setting is always saved when you close
BeInControl and loaded again when it's started next time...
-
The windows minimize mode is restored when BeInControl
is closed and started again
-
Since BeInControl lets you control a program without
a having a receiver unit in it's normal mode, no receiver is needed to
add support for more programs! (good if a programmer wants to add support
for his/her program, but don't want to buy a receiver unit)
Known Bugs
To do
-
Perhaps making it possible to add ordinary HotKeys
via BeInControl?
-
Support for other remote control devices?
-
Add some more commands to the Configuration file
language?
-
More documentation, of course...
Thanks (in chronological order)

Justin
Bukoski - For giving me an IRMAN device and made me thinking about
this...
What is BeOS?
A promising new operating system which is so much
better than Windows 95 and NT that I can't describe it. But it is young,
so there is not so much around, yet! The hardware support is somewhat limited,
but it's growing the whole time!
When you visit a bank, post office, shop or what
ever... they, quite often, have problem with their computers! And when
you check which system they use, it always turn out to be Windows!! However,
there is no problems with the computers! Only the operating system!!
